ASTM E1394
Most CommonThe standard serial protocol for clinical lab analyzers
ASTM E1394 is the communication standard used by nearly every clinical lab analyzer on the market. LISBridge fully implements the ENQ/ACK/EOT handshake and parses all H/P/O/R/L record types produced by 24+ supported instruments.
HL7 v2.x
TCP BidirectionalHospital messaging standard — instrument-native HL7 parsing
HL7 v2.x is used by 95%+ of US hospitals for clinical data exchange. Several lab instruments (Abbott i800, Mindray BC-20s, Rayto CBC, Faca-280) send HL7 natively — LISBridge parses their ORU^R01 streams in real time over bidirectional TCP connections.
RS-232 & TCP/IP
Dual ModePhysical connection types — legacy and modern
RS-232 serial is still the most common physical interface on clinical analyzers. Modern instruments increasingly use TCP/IP over Ethernet. LISBridge supports both simultaneously — you can connect a legacy RS-232 analyzer and a modern TCP/IP analyzer in the same installation.
How protocols work together in LISBridge
Your analyzer sends ASTM E1394 over RS-232 or TCP/IP. LISBridge receives it, parses it, structures the data, then forwards it to your HIS as an HL7 ORU message. The entire chain — in real time, without manual entry.
