LISBridge doesn't approximate the ASTM or HL7 spec — it implements it fully, including every instrument-specific quirk.
RS-232 serial (ASTM) or TCP/IP (HL7). LISBridge auto-detects protocol and instrument model from the first bytes received.
Full ASTM ENQ/ACK handshake or HL7 MLLP framing. Every field, delimiter, and escape sequence decoded accurately.
Completeness check on every message. Duplicates caught. Malformed frames flagged and logged — clean data only moves forward.
Validated results forwarded as HL7 ORU^R01 or raw ASTM — whichever your HIS expects. Bidirectional: orders come back the same way.
Not a proof-of-concept — production middleware running in clinical labs across 3 continents.
LISBridge now sends orders to analyzers. Your HIS posts an order via HTTP; a routing engine maps test codes to the right instrument; LISBridge transmits the order via HL7 OML^O33 or ASTM E1394 — and reads back the ACK. 16 instruments supported.
Analyzers that work in query mode ask LISBridge what to run: the instrument scans a sample barcode and sends a host query, and LISBridge answers over HL7/MLLP with the pending orders for that sample — in real time, no pre-loaded worklist required.
LISBridge opens bidirectional TCP sockets — data flows both ways on every connection. Instruments sending HL7 natively (Abbott i800, Mindray BC-20s, Rayto CBC, Faca-280) are fully parsed in real time.
Every byte off the RS-232 wire is parsed in real time. The full ENQ/ACK/EOT handshake is implemented correctly — no missed messages, no dropped frames.
Each message is validated for completeness and structure before it reaches your HIS. Malformed messages, duplicates, and partial transmissions are caught and logged.
The WASM parser module is fetched from CDN every 15 minutes. New instrument support and protocol fixes deploy silently with zero restart required.
ASTM instruments connect via serial RS-232. HL7 traffic runs over TCP/IP. Both operate simultaneously on the same LISBridge installation.
Every raw message received and every parsed result sent is logged locally with timestamps. Audit trail available for troubleshooting and compliance.
LISBridge now sends orders to analyzers — not just receives results from them. Your HIS/HMS POSTs an order to LISBridge's local HTTP intake. A routing engine maps test codes to the right analyzer. LISBridge dials the analyzer and transmits the order via HL7 OML^O33 or ASTM E1394 worklist download — then reads back the ACK.

Download mode: LISBridge pushes the order unsolicited. Query mode: analyzer polls; LISBridge responds with the worklist.
Pushing an order at an analyzer assumes it is listening. Most analyzers would rather ask — they read the barcode, then query the host for that specimen's worklist. LISBridge answers that query on whatever transport it arrived on, in the dialect it was asked in. This is the default: LISBridge waits to be asked.
The analyzer sends a query record naming the specimen. LISBridge replies with a full worklist frame — header, patient, one order record per test, terminator. Records that arrive without separators between them are still read correctly.
The analyzer sends a query message. LISBridge responds with a display response carrying the pending order. The response is only ever sent in HL7 if the query came in as HL7 — a dialect mismatch fails silently on the analyzer, so it is never guessed at.
What LISBridge guarantees when it answers
Answers in the dialect it was asked in
An HL7 query gets an HL7 answer, an ASTM query gets an ASTM answer. Replying in the wrong dialect fails silently at the analyzer.
Says “no order” out loud
When nothing is pending for that specimen, LISBridge sends an explicit no-order reply instead of leaving the analyzer waiting on silence.
Never hands over another analyzer's order
A query is answered only with orders routed to the analyzer that asked — one bench never receives another bench's worklist.
Holds the order against the specimen
Query-driven orders are held against the specimen rather than a fixed bench, so whichever analyzer runs the sample can claim it.
Cancellable while still answerable
An order can be cancelled right up until it is answered, so a withdrawn request does not reach the analyzer anyway.
Works on every transport
Serial, TCP/IP and file transport all carry queries, and all of them get answered — not just the network path.
Every query received and every answer sent is recorded in the Queries tab on the Data page.
